He turned a number of different small turnings. He started showing the members the Wagner texturing tool and the unique styles available depending on being at center, below center of above center on end grain. He also turned a top from scrap pieces of wood and dowel rod. His final project was a wood sewing thimble. He did not demonstrate how to use the thimble because it was to small for his fingers. Gary is an experienced demonstrator and kept the members entertained with his woodturning knowledge, whit, and humor. It is always a pleasure what Gary turn and his home spun tails. |
Special Notice
Next Meeting The next Club meeting is on September 9th at the Bell Community Center on Hwy 129 in Bell, Florida. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM and is open to the public. The demonstration will be conducted by, Charles Watson. Charles has developed a four-sided turning technique that produces a square hollow form from one piece of wood. In October Jack Roberts will be the featured demonstrator. Jack has been producing some very thin bark edge platters. In November the demonstration is on piercing conducted by Barbara Hawes. Barbara is an accomplished turner and is known to be quite entertaining during demonstrations.
GAINESVILLE CAR POOL There is an interest from members and potential members in creating a car pool to attend the Club's monthly meetings. If you are interested in joining a car pool please send an email, with BWT Car Pool in the subject line, to Tony Forneris at aforneris@yahoo.com. He will contact those interested and let them work out the details. The Georgia Association of Woodturners is presenting "turning Southern Style XVI" on September 17-19, 2010.
