March 2017

The Bell Woodturners
March 9, 2016
at Bell Community Center in Bell, Florida.

This month Ernie Folino will demonstrate turning a pen with an aluminum inlay.  This demo will also show the process involved in preparing the pen blank with the aluminum.

If you haven’t paid your member dues for 2017, now’s the time.  Dues are $30 for individual and $40 for family membership.  In addition, AAW members are requested to supply their AAW member number.  You can find this number right above your name on a recent issue of American Woodturner.  If you are not yet an AAW member, they will be running a half price membership deal starting in April.  Now would be a prefect time to join.  The magazine and website are well worth it.

Jack Roberts turned a box for the January demo and Tommy Hartline turned an inside-out ornament for February.  We will be selling raffle tickets for both of these pieces and future demo pieces over the next few months.  The drawing will be held at the June meeting, you need not be present to win.  The pieces will be available at meetings for inspection.

The Jacksonville club is hosting a demo by Graeme Priddle on Saturday, March 25, 9am, at the Jax Woodcraft.  The cost is $25 with an optional $10 lunch.  Several of us are going.  There are a couple empty seats in my van if anyone else is interested.  Contact me for details or grab me at the meeting.

The club has been invited to participate in an art show at Rum 138 in Fort White during May.  We have a dedicated space of approximately 12×20 feet.  If you’re interested in participating you will need to decide fast.  We need to determine participation so that we can get an idea of how much space can be allocated to each artist and how to set up the room.  The tentative title for the show is “Woodturning Beyond the Salad Bowl”, a sort of tongue in cheek way of saying woodturning is art.   The venue will need 1 Hi-Res professional quality image of a piece and a short 1-2 line bio from each artist.  Pieces must also be named/titled with description. . We’ll be discussing this at the meeting, along with the exact show dates, deadlines and other info.

Please Remember to bring anything you would like to donate for our raffle and any turning you would like to share at show and tell.
