I began woodworking 33 years ago building and designing furniture and kitchen cabinets. I discovered woodturning in 2007 and I was hooked. I loved the challenge of taking a chunk of wood and creating a beautiful piece of art, but also loved the ability to create something that was not only functional but pleasing to the eye. The artistic freedom to create something with woodturning, I feel is greater than any other art medium. All trees are different and present different challenges to the woodturner. I carefully select the wood that I turn based on color, grain structure and strength to enhance the individual vessel that will be turned from it.
I am member of the American Association of Woodturners and have also been on the board of my local woodturning group for several years. I attend national and state woodturning symposiums and demonstrations around the country to continually hone my artistic and woodturning skills. I have also been a demonstrator at several woodturning clubs around the state hoping to pass on the skills, ideas and tips that I have learned from other woodturners.
